The Haps

So, it's been a while since I last posted, but I have a good excuse...I've been busy!! (By the way, I'm going to go ahead and call Greg out on this right now. He told me that he would post something sometime because this is our FAMILY blog, not just mine. Let's see if this happens any time soon!)

FYI
I'm sure you're all dying to know whether we're flying or driving, and...we're driving. We decided to take our time and get a hotel 1/2 way there. Greg was also changed to salary at work so now he gets paid vacation hours and we don't feel like we have to rush getting there and back. We also factored in that it is cheaper and that leaves me more shopping money! Except for the fact that I just got a speeding ticket that cancelled out my extra shopping money. :( Grrrrr!!! It's a sore subject and I'm not quite ready to talk (or joke) about it yet.

EMMY ROSE
We just had Emmy's 6 month check up and she's doing great! She is about 15 lbs and 25 inches long. She's in the 30-40% for height and weight now. We just started feeding her some rice cereal and bananas. And let me tell you, we have entered a new era of diapers! It's amazing what that little bit of food can do to her digestive system. Wow! I wish that I could describe some of the new faces and noises that have been coming from her lately. She's also started blowing spit, i.e. raspberries. She has become more than a leaky faucet; it's more like a constantly-running-at-full-force faucet. Sorry for the lack of new pictures. I'm having issues getting them from my camera to my computer lately. It's definitely time for a new camera.

SCHOOL
Things have been crazy at work lately. We had Parent's Weekend a few weeks ago and that is always stressful. It's kind of like parent teacher conferences, but on sterroids! These parents are paying A LOT for their girls to be here and they're flying in from all over the country and even from Bermuda. This is the last full week of school before our summer break and summer semester. I've been enjoying the perks of being an English teacher and having a TON of grading to do*. We only get one week off at the beginning of June and then a week in August, other than that I'm teaching all year. For the summer semester we'll be doing some journalism and Shakespeare. I know they don't really go together, but I thought that creating a school newspaper would be a fun summer class, and I want to take a field trip to the Shakepeare Festival at SUU so I thought we should read some more of his stuff.

*(Please note sarcasam.)

AND DEN...
So for Mother's Day Greg got me a spa package with a massage, pedicure, and a facial. I could so get used to that type of luxury! It was so nice! Our friend Josh also got his wife the same thing so we had a great girl's day last Saturday with the spa, shopping and yummy Olive Garden! Thank you to my wonderful sister for watching Emmy for me. (Greg was busy moving a new family in to the ward) Her 4 kids are so cute with Emmy. I'm so glad that she's going to be able to enjoy a relationship with her sweet cousins. We also got to go to Zion Canyon with the Gibson's because they have some crazy rich friends who have a second home in Springdale. It was really nice just to relax and not have an agenda. We played Scrabble and Zarahemla and watched some movies (and ate WAY too many Peanut MnM's). Just great! Now it's on to a busy week getting ready for the trip and finishing off the quarter for school. Wish us luck, (and sanity)!

To Drive or Fly...That is the Question.

Greg and I are trying to decide whether to drive or fly to California next month. I lean towards one and Greg the other. So the question is, what do you think? Remember to factor in the 6 month old baby that will be accompanying us. There are valid arguments for both sides. Here is what I came up with off the top of my head. Let me know if you think of any to add to either side.

Flying

+Get there quicker

+Have more time in Cali, less driving

+Can hold and comfort baby if she fusses

-Annoyed passengers and mean looks

-More expensive

-Dealing with airport security

Driving

+Less expensive (maybe - this depends on gas prices!)

+The comfort of our own vehicle

-MUCH longer

-Baby stuck in carseat, can't comfort as well

-Listening to Jack Johnson for 12+ hours (helps to comfort said baby

not that I don't love him, but there is a point...)

-Gas station bathrooms - enough said

So as you can see we're torn. Greg plans on making a spreadsheet that will solve all questions. I for one don't believe in the magical qualities of spreadsheets and would love to hear what opinions my friends and family have on this very important matter.
