My First Album

What a great tag! You get to create your first album...or Record, for you older readers! ;)

Here is mine. Prepare yourselves to be impressed!

Thanks to Em for this fabulous idea!

1- Band Name: go to wikipedia, hit "random article." The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. *** Mine was: Tokatee Klootchman.

2- Album Title: go to "random quotations" the last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album. ***Mine was: "like that of a sculpture." Cool, huh?

3- Cover Art: go to flickr and click on "explore the last seven days" third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4-Use photoshop or Picasa to put it all together.

5-Create a mix of music that you think would go with the album. I was too lazy to make an actual list but you can use Playlist.com if you really want to do it.

I'm pretty sure that my album has something to do with an Irish flute and a cello, so I didn't think I could find much for it. Use your imaginations!

I will tag anyone who wants to do it, but I'll call out: Greg, Sarah, Darby, Dev, Stacy, Linds, Chelsey, Cassidy, & Alisha.

Um...a little help please?

I have been feeling particularly uninspired lately on what to write. I want to use this blog as a forum not just for posting family pictures, but also for writing. (I AM an English teacher, duh.) I feel a bit like a hypocrite because I'm always urging, nay, forcing, my students to write, yet I barely do any writing other than everyday stuff.

I don't even keep a journal.

I know, right!?

Admit it, you're thinking that I really am a hypocrite, huh?

Some of my students actually got me to do a memoir writing workshop along with them, and I loved it! I wrote about the night that Emmy was born, (no gory details), and it was really neat to go back and try to relive it. Um, no I will not share it here on the blog, but thanks for asking. No, really, it's a bit personal and I don't want people to judge me and think that I'm a bad writer. You know, the whole, "If you can't do then teach" idea.

I am further motivated because I saw my favorite high school teacher, Mr. Beeson, on a local morning TV show promoting a book that he wrote. (The UnValentine) It's not that I want to write a book right now, I just want to try and develop more as a writer.

So here's what I need from you peeps.
I need some writing prompts.
I give them to my students everyday, but I'm sick of those ones.

So can people tell me what they would find interesting to read about, or what they have really enjoyed writing about?

THANKS!!!

Confession

Ok

I have a confession...

today while Emmy was standing on the rug next to the tub waiting (not very patiently) to get in...

she peed

not that much

but pee none the less

AND

I actually considered not washing the rug!

Seriously.

What have I become?

fyi

I washed the rug.

Here she is with her new best friend. I'm not kidding. She is OBSESSED with this bottle of lotion lately. Her dad even got her a cute little bottle of lotion for Valentine's Day, and she still prefers this monstrosity. As long as it makes her happy, right?

Testing, testing...

This is a test. I haven't uploaded videos for ever because there's been some issues. I think I may have fixed those issues. Kind of. These weren't the videos that I really wanted to post, but they'll do.

Anywho...I think the last videos we posted Emmy was just walking. She started at around 11 months, and now she's 14 months and running like a wild woman!

This first video is really long and it's just us playing with Emmy. Don't feel obliged to watch the whole thing please. For some reason she always get the book "Wicked" from my book shelf and wants to read it. Even if I move it to another shelf she finds it. Wierd.

This one shows more of her craziness and obsession with gloves and things on her hands. The other day she even had me wrap a diaper on her hands. Crazy lady.

Once In A Blue Moon

I don't make new years resolutions but I thought I could at least try to post once in a while this year. So here goes the review of January. I finished my time at my first job out of college. For a variety of reasons I felt it was time for me to hit the bricks. I now commute to St. George but not to worry, we are still living in Cedar. There are a few things that that I've learned while taking the 45 minute drive. First, that Taylor Swift song about her being Juliet and some dude being Romeo is played way too often. And it seems as though she just threw a bunch of literary references together assuming none of her fans have read the books referenced. Why else would she talk about herself having a scarlet letter? Retarded. Second, just about anybody with vocal cords could be a DJ in southern Utah. Finally, if you actually want to listen to music you have the choice of country or classic rock. So I find myself turning off the radio and enjoying the transition of tree covered mountains of Cedar to the red rocks of St. George. Other than staying in St. George two nights a week and crappy radio programs, the commute is worth getting out of my old job.

With the new year brings the second half of the TV season. My regularly watched programs are as follows:

  • Monday: Chuck, Heroes and Top Gear (found on BBC America)
  • Tuesday: Fringe and Scrubs
  • Wednesday: Life, Lost and Pushing Daisies (has it been cancelled yet?)
  • Thursday: The Office and 30 Rock
  • Friday: Psych (if you don't know about this you're missing out)
I'm not ashamed to admit this but I get very excited for American Idol. I think the show is old, stale and out to exploit the the insane minds of North America. But as soon as the show crowns the next one hit wonder, Fox gives us something requiring more talent. The one and only, So You Think You Can Dance. I'll admit it's a stupid name but it the talent they get from the contestants and choreographers more than makes up for the lack of a good name.

I'm getting over a case of shingles as you read this. I thought shingles were just an old wives tale. I don't think I've ever been more annoyed in my entire life. The itchiness is enough to drive you mad. And the random shooting pains caused my muscles to ache all day. I'm just glad the blisters didn't bleed considering the puss was flowing for the first week. Now I have little craters that look infected. I think the best part is knowing that there isn't much you can do other than wait it out.

It appears that Emmy is getting her teeth but still no hope for her hair. I know she's not the only baby that struggles to grow hair but it's starting to get ridiculous. Luckily this is the only set-back of her young life. I'm amazed at her ability to pick up on sign language. She is learning it faster than I can. This can be a problem if I'm left alone with her for long periods of time.

I'm a sucker for decent marketing in the beverage industry. The other day I payed for A&W Root Beer Float soda. I'm not a huge fan of root beer or root beer floats but I'm convinced that soda in a glass bottle trumps all other methods of distributing carbonation. Anywho... Because A&W put this beverage in a bottle I figured it must be good. Two sips into this concoction I thought my teeth were going to rot instantly. Super sweet and super disgusting. In case you're wondering the correct order of soda distribution for maximum flavor potential is as follows: glass bottle, fountain, can (do not pour in a cup, why would you do that?), two liter (this one you can pour in a cup of ice or a glass mug that has been properly stored in the freezer), and finally a plastic bottle.

The Warrior highlights are on after the commercial break so it's time to go.
